Meeting Chairs Sharon Dent (MD Anderson Cancer Center, TX) and Roderick Dashwood (Texas A&M Health Science Center, TX) will welcome nine speakers for this one day, free event in Houston, Texas.
Sharon Dent is the Director for Cancer Epigenetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and her lab studies the role of chromatin and chromatin-modifying proteins in regulating gene expression, genome integrity and other essential cellular processes. A variety of model systems are used, including Saccharomyces cerevesiae, mice, embryonic stem (ES) cells and various tissue culture cell lines.
Roderick Dashwood is the Director of the Center for Epigenetics & Disease Prevention at Texas A&M Health Science Center – Institute of Biosciences & Technology. His research focuses on genetic and epigenetic changes in cancer development, and the molecular mechanisms by which diet and lifestyle affects histone and non-histone marks, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNAs. The work spans the continuum from in silico modeling, to cell culture and preclinical models, and human translation. is the director for Epigenetics and Disease prevention at Texas A&M Health Science Center. His research focus is on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms in cancer development.
