With the establishment of the “Epigenetic Focus” at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE), an international meeting on the broad area of epigenetics and chromatin was introduced at the institute. The three-day meeting takes place every second year in the 1st week of December.
The Max Planck Epigenetics Meeting has become a central conference in the field of epigenetics and chromatin. Organized by Asifa Akhtar and Thomas Jenuwein, four meetings took place in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and another one is scheduled for 2018.
The program also features a keynote lecture by a Max Planck Director from a different institute, e.g. the vice-president of the Max Planck Society Herbert Jäckle (2010), Stefan Jentsch (2012), Hans Schöler (2014) and Manfred Gahr (2016). About 120 scientists participated in previous meetings and about 60 posters were presented.
